Moving away from the detachable keyboard now, the Pro 7 is also a stunning convertible available in either black or platinum. Simply put, it is more like a tablet that can easily convert to a laptop, with the help of its kickstand and detachable keyboard.

The kickstand rotates from 0 degrees to about 160, making it possible to prop up the touchpad to the height of a traditional laptop screen, and can also be used at lower altitudes when taking notes.

As against the conventional design in most of the other convertibles, there is an optional surface pen that can attach to the side of the Pro 7 touchpad magnetically.

Furthermore, unlike its predecessor, the Pro 7 finally comes with the much anticipated USB-C port. However, it is a USB 3.1 and not Thunderbolt 3 and the Type C port also can’t be used to charge the system, but half cake is better than none, don’t you think?

It also comes with a Type A USB port, a headphone jack, a Surface Connect port, and lastly a micro SD card slot. With a 12.3-inch, 2736×1824 display, the Pro 7 also offers rich and colorful visuals. The keys are also well-spaced and provide just the right amount of tactile feedback.

The Pro 7 also has some downsides to it though; its estimated 0.5-inch bezels are too thick for a modern-day tablet/laptop. The keyboard is detachable and way lighter than the touchpad also makes the setup in laptop mode quite wobbly.

Plus, the detachable keyboard and surface pen are not included in the standard Pro 7 package – you would need to buy them separately. Amidst all the compromises, the Pro 7 is certainly one of the best convertible laptops you can buy around with a crisp display and solid performance.

Dell XPS 15

The Dell XPS 15 is yet again another impressive breakout into the convertible 2-in-1 laptop space. It has a metallic exterior topped with a silvery finish, which has become more or less the signature Dell design.

This repetitive, basic design makes the chassis appear quite unimpressive and even its very comfortable palm rests do not make up for that lack. The palm rest is comfortable thanks to its faux carbon fiber finishing, and although they are prone to fingerprints, they are surprisingly very easy to clean.

The XPS 15 offers both power and great value for your money, although it lacks greatly in the portability sector. This is due to its 4.5 pounds of weight and what’s a bit disappointing about this is the lack of a Type A USB port.

One would expect that for a convertible that weighty, there should have at least been a provision for the Type-A port. It however only comes with two USB C Thunderbolt 3 ports, another two USB C 3.1 ports, an audio jack, a lock slot, and a micro SD card slot.

With a maximum resolution of 1920×1080 pixels though, the XPS 15 certainly offers sharp visuals, enough brightness, and color pop.

The convertible, despite its weight, surprisingly has very thin bezels and this is the primary reason for the awkward webcam placement. The IR camera is found at the base of the display screen, under the Dell logo, and due to its placement, the image angling in video calls is quite disturbing.

On the brighter side now, the power button has an in-built fingerprint scanner and the webcam also carries out facial recognition for increased security.

The trackpad also, though small, is smooth and accurate although the keyboard does not give as much satisfaction, as the keys are shallow and the backlit feature isn’t bright enough. The XPS 15 also has a sturdy hinge that doesn’t make the screen wobbly.

While trying to open the laptop casually, the sturdy hinge could also be quite stiff. However, with a 15.6-inch display screen and over 15 hours of battery life, the XPS 15 is certainly a satisfactory convertible.

Another striking highlight is the ample position of the webcam, unlike the awkward positioning of that of the Dell XPS 15. HP was also able to make this possible, by manufacturing the world’s smallest IR webcam with a diameter of 2.2mm, which sits comfortably at the top of the display screen, despite the thin bezels.

There are also two display options available with the X360: the 13.3-inch, 1080p display, and the 4K OLED screen. One would think at first that there would be a great contrast between the two, but there were no complaints whatsoever with the former as it provides a vivid display with sufficient brightness for outdoor usage.

The keys are also large and well-spaced however, having transparent key fonts on a silver keyboard wasn’t such a clever move, as they are not quite distinguishable.

The speakers, now bottom-firing, also didn’t deliver as much quality as would have been preferred. Definitely, our list of the top 10 best Convertible Laptops wouldn’t be complete without the X360.
