How to DIY build a VR-ready gaming PC

Building a VR-capable gaming PC takes into account some basic hardware, such as a VR headset, and the PC components that support VR, such as the processor and a VR-Ready graphics card. We’ve put together a helpful guide on how to build your PC by yourself, step by step.

Essential Components for a VR PC

Let’s look at the most important hardware components below.

PROCESSOR

You must get a VR-Ready processor; without which you cannot be able to enjoy your games in VR. You just have to look for the VR-Ready logo on the CPU box packaging. Most of the recent AMD and Intel processors are VR-Ready. You can check out this list of supported processors for VR Gaming.

GRAPHICS CARD

You also need a VR-Ready graphics card, because this is the major component that will push the visuals to your monitor. Even if your processor is VR-Ready, and your graphics card isn’t, then you don’t stand a chance of playing your games in VR.

One important consideration is to ensure your graphics card has at least two HDMI ports. This is because some games won’t work fine unless your graphics card has two HDMI ports; one for the VR headset and the other for your monitor. Overall, most of the recent graphics cards will handle VR gaming comfortably.

VR KIT

How to DIY build a VR-ready gaming PC

Definitely, you need a VR headset to see and participate in the action. There are lots of VR headsets available, but some stand out. In summary, the major components of a VR system include the engine and software to power the graphical elements, the tracking which allows you to know your position in the scene, the hardware which allows you to view the scene, and the 3D data.

VR is a complex and integrative technology that borrows from many other technologies, such as real-time 3D computer graphics, tracking technology, sound processing, and haptic technology, among others, therefore software development flexibility and real-time interaction are needed. Some of the major brands include HTC, Oculus, Samsung, Google, Pimax, Acer, Valve, and others. Please refer to the tables above.

RAM

You need a minimum of 8GB of RAM for a playable experience. For the best VR-gaming experience, 16GB or higher is recommended.

VR GAME

With the VR craze catching on, lots of games are going VR. The thing with VR is this; every game looks great in it, whether the game is interesting or not on normal screens.
